As part of ‘Celebrating Syria' Festival 2018, on 13 October, Syrian calligraphist Abdullah Al-Anezi led a workshop on the art of Arabic calligraphy in Longsight Library, Manchester. Participants explored the beauty of Arabic writing and had a go at writing their own name with ink and a real Qalam (reed pen). Abdullah’s workshop at last year’s Celebrating Syria Festival was very positively received by Arabic and non-Arabic participants alike, and was over-subscribed (pun intended!).
Abdullah Al-Anezi
A self-taught artist, Abdullah has been practicing Arabic calligraphy since 2012. He has presented many calligraphy workshops & courses & demonstrated live calligraphy for visitors at events both in Manchester, where he is based, & across the UK. Abdullah is a member of the Society of Scribes & Illuminators & also of the North West Calligraphers Association.
